“Never let a crisis go to waste”

Dave – the editor

This was the post I put up a week ago on Monday, July 19th, the day we supposedly got our freedom back: ‘Freedom Day’…what a joke that was… The reason I described the day as a joke was because of this announcement that was made at 5pm that day: Covid vaccine certificates to be compulsory for crowded venues in England. In the space of a week, when it comes to how vaccine passports will be applied and enforced, we’ve gone from this to university students needing them to attend lectures and stay in halls of residence: Covid vaccine passports: Students may need jabs for uni lectures or living in halls, No10 says and a third of the UK’s major companies considering making them compulsory: JABS A GOODUN Vaccine passports for Brit workers ‘being considered by a THIRD of major businesses’. There’s a fair bit…

Fintech, Edtech and China

The Gold Standard

Over the weekend, China announced that it would crack down on companies offering private tuition services for fees. They cannot teach foreign courses, hire foreign tutors and also not offer their services for a fee. It has to be a not-for-profit activity. The government would offer such tuition itself. Ostensibly, the government was concerned about the rising cost and the impact on household budgets. I had blogged on it briefly here.

In the meantime, a blog post by Noah Smith, an economics teacher and a (former?) columnist for Bloomberg wrote that China’s crackdown on consumer-internet companies was to ensure that China’s financial and intellectual resources were not diverted for creating low value addition. It did not strike him that such an explanation – if it were true – did not do any credit to China. It reeks of central planning and omniscience. Two, even if it were true and…

The New Dark Age

26 July 2021 — Big Brother Watch

Dear friends,

You can’t have missed the news that the Government wants to make vaccine passes mandatory from September for large gatherings, without even the option of a test as an alternative. The front pages have been filled with Government threats confirming our worst fears – access to nightclubs, sports events, and even universities could be restricted to only those with COVID vaccine IDs.

Politics Disguised as Science: When to Doubt a Scientific ‘Consensus’

When political chicanery uses science as an argument what are the signs you are being conned?

Link to the list is at the end of the article. Substitute “Covid” for “climate change”.

Makes a lot of sense.

When we see public marches supporting some scientific issue, it suggests a degree of desperation. One wonders what could possibly be wrong with the “science” if it does not stand proudly on its own merits?

Too many people are able to see when science is being adulterated and used for a  political agenda and it is apparently hoped that public marches will counter their influence.

Science has its logical basis and departures from logic cannot be ignored.

From ‘The Stream

Anyone who has studied the history of science knows that scientists are not immune to the non-rational dynamics of the herd.

This week’s March for Science is odd. Marches are usually held to defend something that’s in peril. Does anyone really think big science is in danger? The mere fact that the March was scheduled for Earth Day betrays what…
